Procedure to nominate Incoming students 2024/2025
FIRST STEP – Partner institution
1) The International Office should confirm if it has a valid BA for the students area
2) The International Office should nominate the student(s) sending an e-mail to ir@esec.pt with the following information:
- Home University (name and Erasmus Code)
- Student’s name
- Student’s e-mail
- Student’s area of studies
- Semester for exchange
SECOND STEP – After we receive the e-mail with the nomination we will send an e-mail directly to nominated student(s) asking them to fill in an application form.
Applications Deadlines
Autumn term (1st semester/full year)
Applications: March 23rd to September 14th (deadline)
Starting lessons: Mid-September to Mid February
Spring term (2nd semester)
Applications: to be defined
Starting lessons: Mid February to Mid June
THIRD STEP – Student should check the information received (Degree Guide) and fill in the application form
FOURTH STEP – The international team of ESEC will analyse the application and
- inform the students about the acceptance
- provide students with further information to complete the Learning Agreement (for accepted students)

Language requeriments
Coimbra Education School does not require any formal language certification. However, students coming to Coimbra Education School must ensure they have the sufficient level of Portuguese or English language. All the classes are in Portuguese language.

Application procedure
Professors from a foreign university who would like to teach during a short period of time at ESEC, under the frame of Erasmus programme, should follow the instructions below:
- Ensure that your university has an Erasmus bilateral agreement with Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (P Coimbra 02) for your area of teaching;
To organize your Erasmus Exchange there are two possibilities:
- Contact the International Relations Office and provide a teaching proposal: area of teaching and period of stay; the office will get in touch with a professor in ESEC to host you.
- Contact directly a professor you know and agree with her/him your teaching exchange. Please note if you use this form of contact you should always inform International Office to get the official documents for exchange program.
Staff from a foreign university who would like to come for ESEC under the frame of Erasmus programme should follow the instructions below:
- Ensure that your university has an Erasmus bilateral agreement with Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (P Coimbra 02);
To organize your Erasmus Exchange:
- Contact the International Relations Office with a proposal for exchange: area of work and period of stay. The office will get in touch with a staff member/department in ESEC to host you.
Option 1- By railway:
At the airport, you can take a taxi to the main railway station of Porto – Campanhã or you can go from the airport to the station by underground.
Underground to Porto Campanhã railway station
This will take approximately 30 minutes and cost about 2€. Underground station is at the airport, which means you do not have to leave the airport to get to it.
Railway station: Porto Campanhã to Coimbra
During the day, trains depart from the Campanhã station every hour. It takes about 1 hour to get to Coimbra B station. Take InterCidades or Alfapendular trains. Rail fares cost between 14 to 17€. https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en
Option 2- By bus:
Rede Nacional de Expressos – Buses
At the airport, you can take a taxi to Oporto bus station. There, you pick up a bus to Coimbra bus station. The price is about 13€ from Oporto bus station to Coimbra bus station. Option 3 – Coimbra Airport Shuttle
Coimbra Airport Shuttle operates a door-to door shared transfer between the centre of Portugal and both Lisbon and Oporto airports. The Coimbra airport shuttle service offers numerous daily shuttles going to or departing from the airports. https://coimbra.airportshuttle.pt/
Option 1- By railway
At the airport, you can take a taxi to the main railway station of Lisbon – Oriente or you can go from the airport to the station by underground.
Underground to Oriente railway station
Take the red line on direction to S. Sebastião, and leave the 3rd stop “Oriente”. It takes about 10 minutes and cost about 1,50€.
Railway station: Lisbon to Coimbra
During the day, trains depart from the Oriente station every hour. It takes less than 2 hours to get to Coimbra B station. Take InterCidades or Alfapendular trains. Rail fares cost between 20€ to 24€. https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en
