Knowledge Factory – Language School
Learning a language encompasses various fields of study and fosters greater cognitive development in areas such as mental flexibility and creativity. Therefore, studying a foreign language enhances our ability to learn, to achieve better academic and professional performance, and it opens doors to new career opportunities.
In addition to cognitive benefits, learning a foreign language helps us acquire other highly relevant skills. It also involves engaging with each respective culture in a world that is rapidly and constantly changing globally.
Encountering different cultures promotes greater tolerance towards diverse lifestyles, social habits and traditions, significantly improving communication and mutual understanding skills.
It was with this overarching goal, that the Knowledge Factory – Language School opened its doors aiming not only towards academic enrichment of the students attending the Coimbra Education School but also towards the enrichment of those in its community.

In an increasingly global world, learning foreign languages is ever so important, as they are not only a gateway to the international labour market, but also a way of cultural broadening of significant interest and scope.
The Coimbra Education School intends to offer the whole internal and external community a wide range of training programmes in foreign languages, as well as Portuguese as a non-native language.
The chosen format will be free courses, structured in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which consists of the Common Reference of Learning for foreign languages in Europe.
ESEC’s scientific offer is rich and varied, and results from the multidisciplinarity that occurs in more than twenty bachelor’s and master’s degrees in different areas of knowledge. For this reason, we are able to offer a variety of short courses, at different times of the year, and in distinctive styles, which can include workshops in gastronomy, illustration, design, or any other area of interest to an audience eager to enrich their knowledge and carry out valid, high-quality training.
Strategy
Quality in the teaching, propagation and promotion of languages and cultures through offering, the internal and external ESEC community, courses in different areas of knowledge, lengths and formats.
Resources
Courses are exclusively taught by highly qualified native speaking teachers with wide-ranging experience, using multimedia technology, interactive methodologies, reference materials and online support.
